Gathering of the Vibes Festival 2008
Location:
Postal code 10552, United States
Mount Vernon, New York 10552
Starts at: 10:00 AM
This is not an all day event
Description:
This is a wonderful four day music (jamband, blues, rock, folk, funk, and groovy stuff) festival that takes place at Seaside Park in Bridgeport -- right on the sound -- that we attended last year.. Bridgeport will again play host to the Vibes, July 31st through August 3rd, 2008. Phil Lesh & Friends will be headlining this year, and the lineup (which will be updated as the dates get closer) include some fabulous bands. In 2007 we were blessed with beautiful weather, treated to unforgettable musical performances, and had the opportunity to showcase a great outpouring of positive people. The fact that the festival is being welcomed back to Bridgeport is a direct result of the respect, kindness, and compassion the participants demonstrated towards the city, its park, and its residents last year. So come join me this year for an unforgettable summer weekend on the shores of Long Island Sound. Just got word that the Black Crowes will be headlining the festival on Friday night August 1st!!! This is so cool - they have just released a new album, which is really GREAT! I was listening to an interview with them this morning on my way to work.. for those who are not familiar, check them out here Here's a review from a regular listener: It's Been 7 years, but we finally have some actual "New" Black Crowes material. Not alternate takes, cutting room floor scraps, or rejected songs from previous album projects. Ten All new Black Crowes songs (one cover). Warpaint is a good mix of what these guys do best: bluesy, country, southern rock music. You can definitely hear the influences of their predecessor's that they have been compared to: early Stones, the Faces, Allman Brother's, and even a little bit of those laid-back southern-California Eagles of the 70's. Yep, I'm giving it 5 stars. I know I'm PSYCHED to see them in AUGUST! Here's a list of musicians so far: Phil Lesh & Friends ? The Neville Brothers ? Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival ? Jackie Greene Band ? Dark Star Orchestra ? Sam Bush ? Assembly of Dust ? Ryan Montbleau ? NRPS ? Deep Banana Blackout ? Porter Batiste & Stoltz ? King For A Day ? Donna Jean & The Tricksters ? Strangefolk - More artist to be announced soon! ~ go here to see and listen and learn more! Tix for this festival come in many guises.. they have weekend pass tix that include camping.. they have weekend passes that DON"T INCLUDE CAMPING.. they have RV passes for those who would rather not camp, but want to stay on site.. (In addition to renting an RV on your own, folks who bring RVs are required to purchase a $150 RV pass (in addition to a camping pass) - but its good for whoever will split the costs of renting the RV). And.. they have one day passes for folks who only want to go for one day.. Last year I met up with Angie and Jan and spent the whole day with them - they got day-passes.. I'm a festival-freak, so I"ll stay the whole weekend.. and I"ve got a big camping tent..a very comfy queen sized air mattress, and a 10x10 EZ up tent, so we can have a "living room" and all sorts of stoves, lanterns, tables, coolers, etc to make the camping experience fun and comfy. Come join me and let's have a weekend party!! I even bring my own shower!! LOL.. although it really isn't necessary because since we're at a state park, there is a nice big building with showers and regular bathrooms.. SO.. early bird tix go on sale on TUESDAY MARCH 11TH - and are only $130 for four days - that's FOUR FULL DAYS OF MUSIC... we've been spending $100 or more for ONE concert.. so this is really a good deal. The thing is, the weekend pass prices go up every month or so.. and they are limiting the number of passes this year so that the campers can have more room.. (it was quite jammed together last year). PLEASE RSVP AND LET ME KNOW WHETHER YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A WEEKEND PASS OR ONE DAY PASS OR WHATEVER.. The one-day passes are not yet for sale, but they were around $50 per day last year, so I"m guessing that will be about the same price this year.. So if you're interested in possibly going for the day, please rsvp and let me know! You can go to the website (here) to find out all you'd ever want to know about this festival.. but if you have questions, please email me! Or.. go to last year's event and look at the pictures!! LOL It did rain one day.. but that didn't stop us.. or the music! Rain-smain.. a little water never hurts ya...! :) Happy Festivalling! :) Terry Check out photos from last year - August 2007 -- it was a blast! here
